From the moment a couple learns they’re expecting, they begin to imagine all of the special moments they will have with their child. Watching their child take their first steps, say their first words, going to their first day of school and so much more. Ibeth and Ernesto were no different. Happily married, the two of them were blissfully awaiting the impending birth of their first child. It was everything they imagined and more.
Then, in April 2016, their world turned upside down. Ibeth received the devastating news that she had an inoperable brain tumour (acute lymphotblastic leukemia). Making the only decision a mother can, she chose to put off her own treatment in order to give their unborn child the best opportunity at life. She managed to make it until 32 weeks when Baby Alexia was delivered by C-Section. Alexia remaining in the NIC-U for the next month while Ibeth immediately began chemotherapy, and later a stem cell transplant. She and Ernesto were filled with hope and optimism for the future that would include their beloved daughter Alexia.
At the end of November, Ibeth and Ernesto learned that her disease had relapsed and there was no curative treatment options available. Recognizing that Ibeth’s time with her family was extremely limited, she wanted to make the most of the time she did have left. She knew Alexia would have no memory of her mother, and only would live in the stories that Ernesto would tell her as she got older. Ibeth wanted to be able to have photos that Alexia would be able to cherish later showing her how much her mother loved her. She wanted to be able celebrate Alexia’s first Christmas and first birthday. This was where the Wishing Well Wedding And Event Foundation came in.
Led by Lisa Laplante of Everlasting Impressions, an incredible team of our STAR vendors got together to make Ibeth’s wish come true. Through their combined efforts, they put on an afternoon celebration that included a photo shoot for the family, followed by both a Christmas and First Birthday celebration for Baby Alexia. Ibeth lovingly chose a dress for her daughter and a Santa outfit for the occasion. Durand Bridal and Formal Wear and Emilia Art Make-Up acted as Ibeth’s fairy godmothers providing a beautiful cobalt blue gown for her to wear and doing her hair and make-up to help Ibeth look her absolute best!
Paulina of Paulina Ochoa Photography was there to capture each and every moment, documenting the day with pictures that Ernesto and Alexia will treasure in the years to come. Chair Flair helped create a backdrop for the photos and assisted with some of the other décor for the event. Twisted Film Works was also able to capture the event on video, another keepsake that will become cherished in the future.
Ibeth, Ernesto and Alexia were able to celebrate with some of their closest friends with a celebration at their home. The food was catered by Pio Peruvian, a nod to Ibeth’s ancestory. Cake Sensations made a wonderful winter-themed cake, perfect to acknowledge a winter birthday and Christmas. The dessert table included other sweet treats with a candy buffet from The Sugar Cube.
Princess “Elsa” from Nicole’s Sparkling Princess Parties made a special appearance to the party along with a balloon specialist and magician Tristan Court from TriXtan Entertainment.
Sadly, Ibeth went into a coma two and a half weeks after her wish celebration. She passed away peacefully in January, 2017. While we know she is looking over her family and keeping them safe, we offer our condolences to Ernesto and Alexia, and the rest of Ibeth’s family.
A special thank you to all of the wonderful STAR vendors who were involved and helped make Ibeth’s wish come true!
